On the 12th of April, 1967, the first leg of the European Cup semi-final was played between Celtic and Dulca Prague, in which Celtic won 3-1.

Following the game, Jim McGinley (Sr.), the Director of Holiday Enterprises, decided upon his course of action. He had told himself that if Celtic won the first match by two clear goals, he would make a trip to the bank. True to his word, the very same day he went to his local branch, and remortgaged the family home in order to fulfil his plan. Two weeks later, following the 0 - 0 draw which spelled Celtic’s aggregate victory and progression to the final, Jim met with Freddie Laker of Laker Airlines, and using the mortgage money, commissioned every plane Laker had. Jim went on to charter more, from Dan Air, Britannia, Aer Lingus and others.

In so doing, “Big” Jim McGinley commissioned 19 planes, all filled with Celtic fans, to Lisbon for the final, making history in facilitating the first mass airlift of football fans in Europe.

Club 60/67 is an initiative is led by “Wee” Jim McGinley (Jr.). Jim previously organised the 50th anniversary trip to Lisbon in 2017 which reached approximately 3000 attendees. The celebration incorporated an organised visit to the Estadio Nacionale, a dinner, a street party, and was covered by BBC News, STV News, Portuguese TV, and the Portuguese FA.

Holiday Enterprises and Jim McGinley Sr. wanted to let Celtic fans touch history, and create memories recounted for years to come. This initiative continues that tradition.
